AMiCI is the acronym of AntiMicrobial Coating Innovations. It is a consortium which was initiated by researchers at the Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands in 2012. AMiCI brings together stakeholders from different countries and disciplines, including knowledge institutes, producers and processors of antimicrobial coatings, and organizations involved in the compliance with international standards on hygiene. The central aim is to evaluate the impact of (introducing) antimicrobial coatings in healthcare on the spread of infections and on the efficacy in fighting Health Care Associated Infections and bacterial resistance to current antibiotics.
In 2015, the Scientific Committee of the EU-COST Association (European Cooperation in Science and Technology; http://www.cost.eu ) approved the proposal prepared by the AMiCI consortium, leading to the COST Action 15114: Anti-MIcrobial Coating Innovations to prevent infectious diseases (http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ca/CA15114).
Since then the consortium has become an increasing network with over 60 partners from 28 different European countries, collaborating in 5 different working groups.
For us, it is an honor to coordinate this consortium and to organize multiple activities leading to better hygiene and reduction in Health Care Associated Infections on the one hand and stimulating pan-European collaborations and better understanding of different cultures on the other hand.
