Antimicrobial activity of natural phenolic compounds and their potential application

Synthetic chemicals have been used for a disease control in plants for a long time. However, most of these chemicals cause a number of undesirable effects on the environment, including human health. Therefore, there has been increasing interest in natural and plant-based products such as plant extracts and essential oils, which are thought to be better alternatives to synthetic chemicals [1-2]. Carvacrol and eugenol are active phenolic components of EOs and are known for their wide spectrum of biological activities including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects.
